Verneil Ivan Hallstrom was born November 15, 1935, at Wakefield to Ivan and Verna (Anderberry) Hallstrom. He graduated from Wakefield High School, Wayne State College with a Bachelors Degree, and received his Masters Degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He served in The United States Army from 1955-1957, at Camp Chaffe, AK and Fort Sam Houston, TX. Vern married Mardelle Baker August 7, 1960, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wakefield. He was an educator and coach at Vermillion, SD and Omaha, farmer with his brother-in-law, Don Baker, north of Wakefield, supervisor at Big Red Farms in Wakefield, and worked at Pac N Save following his retirement. Vern was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Wayne.
Vern is survived by his wife, Mardelle; two sons, Lt. Col. Scott (Veronica) Hallstrom of Camp Lejeune, NC and Jeff (Kris) Hallstrom of Arlington; daughter, Karen (Todd) Campbell of San Antonio, TX; eight grandchildren; brother, Jim (Fran) Hallstrom of Wakefield; nieces and nephews.
Vern was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Alicia Joy.
