On April 20, 1933 Marvin was born in his home South of Laurel. He is the second of 4 children born to Chris and Ellen (Jackobsen) Christensen. He attended rural school and later graduated from Laurel Public School in 1950. On December 4, 1960, Marvin married Mary Ann Paulsen at United Lutheran Church in Laurel, where they lived and enjoyed 52 years of marriage.

Marvin had a passion for hard work; he especially loved farming which he started immediately after graduating from high school. In 1974 he saw a local need for additional grain storage and markets and built North Side Grain. In 1983 Marvin made the decision to sell the grain elevator as farming was his first love. He sold North Side Grain which has continued to serve the local community.

Marvin loved to fish with fishing buddies, family, and especially his grandchildren. He and Mary Ann also loved to travel and were privileged to see many places in God’s beautiful world. Most of all he loved time spent with family.

He was actively involved in worship and activities at United Lutheran Church. Marvin also enjoyed being part of the Via de Cristo. He was passionate about his community and wanted to promote growth in the city of Laurel where he served on the board that started the Laurel Community Foundation.
